MRLF Organizing Team — News from the Field
The political team and the COPE Committee at the MRLF are meeting with candidates for office almost weekly! We meet with candidates who are running for school boards and city councils all across our jurisdiction. We recently made endorsements in the very critical Anoka Hennepin School Board races. We are a little more than 2/3rds of the way through the DFL Ward Convention season, and the DFL City Convention is nearing on the horizon. MRLF staff and volunteers have been hard at work engaging delegates and having our presence known at each convention. Resulting in big wins for labor champions such as Council President Elliott Payne, Council Member Robin Wonsley, and Council Member Aurin Chowdhury. All of these fights will continue on through to November including Katie Cahman’s race in Ward 7.
In wards without city council endorsements, our message of the need for a pro-worker Park Board and our endorsed candidates that will get us there has been warmly received. Look out for opportunities to support our Park Board candidates leading up to the DFL City Convention July 19th-20th.
The final weekend of DFL Ward Conventions is rapidly approaching with Wards 9,10, and 11 occurring on Saturday, May 31st. We have an opportunity to win DFL endorsements for two more labor champions in Jason Chavez (Ward 9) and Aisha Chughtai (Ward 10). They have had our backs, and now it is time for us to have theirs! The Ward 6 convention is on Sunday, June 1st.
