The Downtown Minneapolis Public Library as it looked April 21, 2005.

Above: A crane lifts a 1,300 pound piece of Kasota stone, quarried near Mankato, Minnesota. Below: Stefano Follega and Renado Susak, members of Bricklayers Local 1, guide a piece of Kasota stone to the rooftop.

The smaller pieces of Kasota stone weigh about 800 pounds, while the larger pieces weigh 1,300 pounds.

Small pins help hold massive Kasota stone pieces in place. The stone pieces weigh 800-1,300 pounds.

Leon Henrickson (center) led a safety walk-through. A superintendent for Mortenson construction since 1970, and a member of Carpenters Local 87, he was retiring at the end of the week.
