MRLF endorses Ryan Winkler for Hennepin County Attorney

For Minneapolis School Board, MRLF endorses KerryJo Felder, Collin Beachy, Fathia Feerayarre, Lori Norvell

Delegates to the Minneapolis Regional Labor Federation, AFL-CIO voted June 8 to endorse Ryan Winkler for Hennepin County Attorney.

Delegates also voted to endorse four candidates for Minneapolis School Board: KerryJo Felder and Collin Beachy, who are running at large; Fathia Feerayarre, District 3; and Lori Norvell, District 5.

The endorsements are the MRLF’s first round of local endorsements for 2022 and came at the MRLF delegates’ first in-person meeting since March 2020
Hennepin County Attorney:
Ryan Winkler

Longtime Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman is not seeking re-election, leaving an open seat.

MRLF-endorsed Ryan Winkler will face six other candidates in the August 9 primary election for Hennepin County Attorney.

Only the top two vote-getters in the non-partisan primary election will advance to the November 8 general election.

Winkler currently is serving his seventh term in the Minnesota House of Representatives, representing Golden Valley, Medicine Lake, Plymouth and St, Louis Park. He has served as the DFL Party’s Majority Leader in the House for the past two terms.

Through the 2021 session, Winkler had earned a 99 percent lifetime voting record on working family issues from the Minnesota AFL-CIO.

In the race for Hennepin County Attorney, Winkler also has been endorsed by AFSCME Council 5, IBEW Local 292, IUPAT District Council 82, LiUNA Minnesota & North Dakota, Minneapolis Building and Construction Trades Council, Minneapolis Firefighters Local 82, SEIU Healthcare Minnesota & Iowa, SEIU Local 284,  Sheet Metal Workers Local 10, Teamsters Joint Council 32, Teamsters Local 120, and UFCW Local 1189.

Minneapolis School Board: Primary Election August 9

The election for Minneapolis School Board will include a Primary Election for the At Large races and for the District 5 race. Candidates in District 1 and District 3 are running unopposed.

The race for the two At Large seats on the ballot includes six candidates, with only the top four vote-getters from the August 9 Primary Election going on to the November 8 General Election.

Minneapolis School Board At Large:
KerryJo Felder

MRLF-endorsed KerryJo Felder is seeking to reclaim a seat on the Minneapolis School Board, this time running At Large. Felder won election in 2016 to the District 2 seat but lost her re-election bid in 2020.

Felder has worked as an organizer for the Minneapolis Regional Labor Federation since 2013. She is a member of Teamsters Local 120.

Prior to joining the MRLF staff, Felder was active in education issues and helped to organize a community campaign to save North High from closing.

She is a parent with students in the Minneapolis Public Schools.

Felder also has been endorsed by the Minneapolis Federation of Teachers and SEIU Minnesota State Council.

Minneapolis School Board At Large:
Collin Beachy

MRLF-endorsed Collin Beachy, running for an At Large seat on  the Minneapolis School Board, is an educator with  20 years of experience in the public schools including seven years working for Minneapolis Public Schools.

He currently works as a case manager at the Minneapolis Public Schools’ Transition Plus Services.

Beachy is a seven-year member of the Minneapolis Federation of Teachers.

Beachy also has been endorsed by the Minneapolis Federation of Teachers and SEIU Minnesota State Council.

Minneapolis School Board District 3:
Fathia Feerayarre

MRLF-endorsed Fathia Feerayarre is running unopposed for the Minneapolis School Board’s District 3 seat, which represents part of south Minneapolis.

Feerayarre also has been endorsed by the Minneapolis Federation of Teachers and SEIU Minnesota State Council.

Minneapolis School Board District 5:
Lori Norvell

MRLF-endorsed Lori Norvell is running in a four-way race to represent District 5 on the Minneapolis School Board.

Incumbent Nelson Inz is not running.

District 5 is bordered by Interstate 35W on the west, 36th Street on the north and the city limits on the east and south.

Norvell is a Minneapolis Public Schools parent and school volunteer. She currently has one child enrolled in MPS while two other children are MPS graduates.

Norvell worked previously for the Minneapolis Public Schools as a special education assistant, substitute teacher, and for seven years as a middle school math teacher.

She is a former member of the Minneapolis Federation of Teachers.

Norvell currently works for the Hennepin Theatre Trust.

Norvell also has been endorsed by the Minneapolis Federation of Teachers and SEIU Minnesota State Council.
