BLOOMINGTON — “People in Bloomington are kind of frustrated; Our neighborhoods haven’t seen the investment they’ve needed,” says Jenna Carter. Carter is running for the open At Large seat on the Bloomington City Council with AFL-CIO endorsement. Incumbent Tim Busse is leaving the seat to run for Mayor.
Carter says improving the relationship between city hall neighborhoods will be a priority. “I’ve knocked on thousands and thousands of doors,” she reports.
She says residents “want to have city leaders they feel are listening to them.”
After graduating from Iowa State University with a B.S. in nutrition, Carter moved to the Twin Cities to earn a Masters of Public Health from the University of Minnesota. She has worked for Blue Cross to develop policies to address health inequities.
“I’m a public health person. I’ve dug into the data. It’s very clear there are inequities in Bloomington,” Carter says.
Active in the Bloomington Housing Coalition, Carter also volunteers for other local nonprofits. She and her husband have two children in the public schools.
“I’m an ardent supporter of strong unions and supporting union families in our workforce and making sure we have good, livable wage jobs,” says Carter.
